We'd like to think you already know who Damien Hirst is but just in case...
Thought to be the world’s wealthiest living artist, since emerging onto the international art scene in the late 1980s, Damien Hirst has created installations, sculptures, paintings and drawings that examine the complex relationships between art and beauty, religion and science, and life and death.
From serialized paintings of multicolored spots to animal specimens preserved in tanks of formaldehyde and human skulls encrusted in diamonds, his work challenges contemporary belief systems, tracing the uncertainties that lie at the heart of human experience..
Now, through the wonder of Fractionalized Ownership, you can have your very own little piece of an original Damien Hirst spin painting.
What does this mean?
In 2022 we ran a successful Kickstarter campaign named Severed Skulls in which we cut 90 mini skulls from an original Damien Hirst spin painting and offered them as rewards.
We followed that with further releases from the various different shapes of spin paintings that were created at the 2009 'Requiem' exhibition in Kiev, Ukraine.
Now with the Spectacular Saturns project, we have cut 92 mini Saturns out of this original Hirst spin painting. Each one is a scaled-down version of the original. These are 65mm x 28mm in size and they come mounted on artboard, individually numbered and bearing a Hirst embossed logo. They can also optionally come framed and ready to hang. This is the most popular choice among our customers. In addition, each artwork comes in a presentation box and with a certificate of authenticity.
Interestingly, artworks from our previous projects are now starting to appear on the secondary market, from eBay to mainstream auction houses. The prices achieved have exceeded the purchase price by a significant margin, reaching well over $1000 in some cases.
The original artwork
A little background on this artwork.
In April 2009 the Pinchuk Art Centre in Kiev, Ukraine hosted a Damien Hirst exhibition titled Requiem.
Damien installed a couple of his spin machines in the gallery and was present helping/advising the early visitors to create spin paintings using 10 different large pre-cut shapes in heavy watercolour paper. These pieces occasionally come up for sale in auction houses such as Sotheby's and Christies and we're always on the lookout for examples in interesting colourways.
